Paul Rudd Honored with Walk of Fame Star, Premieres as Marvel’s Ant-Man
Amidst all the Hollywood box office buzz surrounding the release of Marvel’s newest flick, Ant-Man, July marked a huge month for Academy alum Paul Rudd. The 1991 grad kicked off July with a newly-minted star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, just weeks prior to walking the red carpet at his Ant-Man premiere.
Rudd accepted the honor alongside good friend and fellow Academy alum Adam Scott, as well as Ant-Man co-star Michael Douglas (whose father Kirk is also an Academy graduate) – making him the 43rd Academy alum to receive a star.
“I was flattered and honored and everything, but this is incredible,” Rudd told the crowd. “…There have been some incredible things that I really want to treasure, and getting a star on the Walk of Fame is a watermark… It’s humbling beyond belief.”
Over the years, Rudd has established himself as a prized player in film, television and theatre, boasting a long list of diverse credits including a featured part in the Tony Award-winning production, The Last Night of Ballyhoo. And now, emerging from his most successful run with one of comedy’s prolific producers Judd Apatow, Rudd has joined the Marvel franchise as its newest superhero and Avenger, Ant-Man.
“What's different about [Ant-Man] is that it's a character who's joining a universe that exists throughout several movies, and that's like nothing I've ever done,” Rudd told The Hollywood Reporter.
According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, we’ll be seeing a lot of Ant-Man moving forward: “Three [movies] is the minimum. But I think it's three-plus-plus to appear in other things.” And after Ant-Man grossed nearly $58 million in its first week, we think audiences are nodding with approval.
Whether he’s making us laugh in a new series or saving the Universe from evil in his next flick, we look forward to seeing Rudd more and more. Congratulations on all of your much deserved success!
